Enjoy a unique sailing experience in Turkey. The Turkish Riviera is an exotic location that can be explored by catamarans or yacht charter. Spanning Europe and Asia, this country is beautiful, with a Mediterranean feel and an oriental influence. Turkey is located at the crossroads of the Balkans, the Caucasus, the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean. Almost all the country is located in Asia, consisting of the elongated peninsula of Asia Minor, also called Anatolia (Anadolu). As you cruise along the vast coastline, luxury resorts interspersed with small fishing villages, secluded coves and beautiful ruins greet you. The royal tombs of Dalyan enchant you, while the sunken city of Kekova takes your breath away. The country's coastline seems like a fairytale and the Aegean Sea, filled with idyllic islands, is overwhelming.
Spanning Europe and Asia, this country is beautiful, with a Mediterranean feel and an oriental influence. As you cruise along the vast coastline, luxury resorts interspersed with small fishing villages, secluded coves and beautiful ruins greet you. The sailing area along the Turkish coast is no less than 7200 km in total. Along this coast, you will find the most beautiful bays and beaches to enjoy the surroundings peacefully or to take a nice dip in the blue water. It is said that the most beautiful sailing area along the coast of Turkey lies between Bodrum and Antalya. The distances here from bay to bay are very manageable and doable for day trips. The royal tombs of Dalyan will enchant you, while the sunken city of Kekova takes over your mind. The country's coastline seems like a land in a fairytale, and the entire Aegean Sea dotted with idyllic islands is overwhelming.
Along the coast of Turkey, there is a maritime climate. The winters are mild and in the summer it can get very hot. In summer, there is also rarely any rain. It will be warmest in the east of the coast near the Mediterranean Sea. The less warm coastal towns are near the Black Sea, here it is usually around 25 to 30 degrees Celsius in the summer. Great weather to be at sea! The mountain range running parallel to the coast causes cold winters and dry, hot summers on the Anatolia plateau. But the coastal areas that are interesting for sailors are more moderate in character. From the end of March, the air temperature rises enough to rise above that of the seawater. Until that happens, the temperature difference between the warmer seawater and the colder air above it produces an unstable atmosphere with fog and rain. Once the temperature regulates, the weather in Turkey will be perfect for water sports enthusiasts! The high season is in the months of July and August, but the weather remains ideal until October. After that, the air temperature again wins the battle against the seawater.
The Aegean Sea is known for the strong northern wind, 'Meltemi'. It is only more moderate around the Dodecanese and Turkish coasts. The wind here mainly blows between 3 and 5 Beaufort, but now and then an outlier of around 8 Bft. Overall, it's excellent sailing weather for the somewhat inexperienced sailors, but keep this wind in mind.
A boat licence is not always required if you want to rent a boat in Turkey. To be able to sail independently in Turkey, you need proof of experience. With this, the skipper gives a statement that he or she and possibly a second person on board have sufficient sailing experience. For sailing in Turkey, experience is often enough to rent a yacht. However, some owners may ask for a navigation licence (ICC). Much has changed recently, and it is therefore important to always indicate which certificates you have.
You can start your charter right from Bodrum or Fethiye. Bodrum and Fethiye are easily accessible by plane and if you want to arrange a taxi to the ports, Tubber can also help you with this.
